Shanghai International Asset Management (Hong Kong) Company Limited (“SIAM”) is incorporated in February 1993 in Hong Kong and is engaged in investment advisory services. Currently, it is a licensed corporation registered with the Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong to carry out regulated activities in advising on securities (Type 4) and asset management (Type 9). SIAM became an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Shanghai Industrial Investment (Holdings) Company Limited (“SIIC”) in December 2014. Under the direct supervision of State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of Shanghai Municipal Government, SIIC is a solid and long-established business conglomerate having a number of listed corporations within its group and one of Mainland Chinese enterprises with an extensive local representativeness in Hong Kong. Prior to that, SIAM was a joint venture of Shanghai International Trust Investment Corporation (“SITICO”) and Kwang Hua Asset Management Limited (a member of a Taiwan business conglomerate), the joint forces of both partners raised a listed investment fund in 1993 traded on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange with total capitalization of USD 96 million. In 2009, Shanghai International Group Corporation Limited, the parent company of SITICO, acquired the entire share capital of SIAM and since December 2014, SIAM became a member of SIIC under a restructuring plan.
SIAM is the fund initiator and appointed investment manager of Shanghai International Shanghai Growth Investment Limited (stock code: 770.HK), an investment company listed under Chapter 21 of the Listing Rules of The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Company Limited since 1993, with primary investment focus on investing in companies having operations in the Greater China Region and to invest in China-related listed securities. SIAM’s primary duties and responsibilities are in determining investment strategy, management of invested portfolio, identifying, screening, analyzing and conducting due diligence on investment potentials for the listed fund. Apart from investment function, SIAM is also responsible for general administration, financial management and compliance duties.
In 2014, SIAM commenced its business in investing in RMB investment products in the Mainland. SIAM obtained the qualification approval from China Securities Regulatory Commission as an RMB Qualified Foreign Institutional Investor (“RQFII”) and was allocated an RMB 800 million investment quota to invest in bonds and securities in the Mainland by State Administration of Foreign Exchange. SIAM is appointed as the investment manager of professional investors to invest and manage RMB assets portfolio.
